Beta Fish Care is Generally Simple. Here's what to do:
- Make sure you have a good home for the fish. A bowl with 1.5 gallons of water is perfect for a single betta.
- Place the bowl in a good location (away from a heater or cooler, away from the windows, etc.). Keep the water cool (between 65 and 75 degrees Farenheit).
- Bettas breath air. Thats why you don't need an aeration system in your fish bowl. The key is to keep their water clean and at a good temperature.
- Only place one betta in your bowl. Remember their other name? (Fighting Fish!). Put two male bettas in a bowl, and you'll end up with one. Put a male and a female betta in a bowl, and you'll end up with one. So, just start with one in the first place, and avoid the inevitable fighting!
- Change the water in the bowl when it starts to get slightly cloudy. Usually, once a week is enough.
- Feed your Betta Fish on the schedule your pet store told you. (usually once or twice a day). Your pet store will provide you with appropriate betta food (freeze dried blood worms are popular).
- That's it! Clean water. Good food. One betta per bowl.
This is why bettas are the most popular aquarium fish in the world. If you want to learn more about caring for your Betta Fish, there is plenty more to learn. Most likely they are. If not, there is a possibility of trying to breed. But they aren't in the same tank are they? You shouldn't have them together unless you are breeding. And I wouldn't do that unless you definitely knew what you were doing.
So how do betta fish breed?
My beta fish has been with me 2 years and 4 months, and since 2 wks ago, his behavior has changed tremendously. He will not eat as before, he is not as active. Any suggestions?
My Betta's tail looks ragged, what do you think the problem is?
Right after i put my betta in his fresh cleaned bowl he got sick he swims to the top spitting out air bubbles and sinks back to the bottom on his side whats wrong?
I know what's wrong with your betta tail! he has fin rot, you need to buy medicine to treat it! mine got it too once. He'll be okay.
If your betta fish's tail is ragged it might be tail rot. Talk to your vet!!!
